Ideas and tips to save resources and make your clothes last longer.
-
Dare to air. Airing is a really useful alternative to laundering clothes that just need freshening up. And it's very simple – just hang clothes outside on a washing line or on a hanger in a steamy bathroom.
-
Use the coolest, gentlest cycle possible for the type of clothes you're washing. It saves energy AND makes your clothes last longer.
-
More is less with detergent – adding extra measures can do more harm than good as it leaves a damaging residue on your clothes after rinsing.
Safety
100% of our items undergo chemical and physical testing to ensure compliance with the limits we have set for the use of chemicals, which at times are even more stringent that those set by international standards.
Materials
Acrylic
Acrylic is a man-made fibre that is fossil in origin, and it is widely used for its characteristics of light weight and softness, as well as for its heat-insulating properties. Its extraction stage involves a high environmental impact, comparable to that of other materials with similar characteristics, such as wool. We are working to replace it with more sustainable alternatives.
Cotton
Cotton is a natural fibre, but it can have a significant impact on the environment in terms of water consumption and use of pesticides. OVS is working towards buying 100% more sustainable cotton, including through the Better Cotton Initiative, aiming to improving the impact of cotton growing on people and the environment.
Elastane
Elastane is a man-made fibre with fossil origins, and it is used to add elasticity to fabrics. We are working to use valid commercial alternatives and new design approaches that will be more sustainable.
Viscose
Viscose - or rayon - is a man-made fibre with natural origins. Although it comes from natural materials such as wood, the standard process to make viscose uses large amounts of energy and solvents. This is why we are working to replace it with alternatives made by manufacturers who use high-tech production methods with reduced environmental impact.
Polyester
Polyester is an extremely versatile man-made fibre with characteristics that make it ideal for clothing. The impact associated with its production in terms of the use of energy and solvents, is quite limited. However, the material from which it is made - crude oil - is not biodegradable. We are working towards replacing it with regenerated polyester or other, more sustainable materials.
Wool
Wool is a natural fibre with animal origins, traditionally used for its light weight, softness and insulation properties. It is renewable and biodegradable, but its production is associated with a high impact on the environment. We are working towards using alternatives such as regenerated or certified wool, or even towards replacing it with something more sustainable.
Our suppliers
We have made conscious choices based on the utmost responsibility and transparency at every stage in the production chain.
